South DeKalb Coalition - Supporting Neighbors in Need

Since its founding, the South DeKalb Coalition has proudly led and supported advocacy efforts that protect and uplift our community.

• One of our most meaningful victories was helping to fast-track the naming of the new Ellenwood Park in honor of the late Dr. Alice White Bussey a trailblazer whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
• We also stood firm against wasteful government spending by successfully defeating DeKalb County Commission agenda item 2025-0197, which would have created redundant staff positions at a cost of nearly $300,000 a year.

Every day, the Coalition is on the front lines connecting residents to vital county and state resources, delivering timely updates through our weekly newsletter to tens of thousands, and standing up for our most vulnerable neighbors. When bad policy or unwanted zoning threatens our neighborhoods, we fight back.

And when developers come knocking, we ensure community voices are heard. In zoning battles across South West DeKalb, we’ve helped residents secure real concessions because we believe those who live here should shape how it grows.

This work isn’t always easy. It takes grit, persistence, and people who care. But we’re committed block by block, neighbor by neighbor, to defending the soul of South DeKalb.
